Dectomax Injection is New Zealand’s premium injectable drench containing the unique Doramectin molecule for long-lasting protection against parasites in cattle and effective broad-spectrum control of parasites in sheep and swine.

Dectomax is effective in killing internal and external parasites that can cause disease and limit production potential and provides long acting protection against reinfection. The active constituent in Dectomax (doramectin) is a novel compound which was discovered and patented by Zoetis. Dectomax is effective against doramectin sensitive gastro-intestinal roundworms (including inhibited larvae of Ostertagia ostertagi), lungworms, sucking lice and mange of cattle; and internal and external parasites of sheep and pigs.

Steve says the ease of use of Dectomax
Injection is one of its attractions.

When the bulls come in we give them an oral drench, plus an earmark and a Dectomax Injection. It doesn’t matter which order you do that in, whereas with a pour- on you have to do the oral drench, the earmark and then the pour-on otherwise you’ll wear it all over yourself. Having that flexibility makes a huge difference when you’re dealing with bulls.

Being very aware of drench resistance, Steve likes to alternate his drenches between the different parasiticides.”Initially we use a couple of oral drenches for the calves. We’ll do one oral drench in December at around three months, and then one at six months. I’ll use Dectomax Injection as an alternative drench over the winter months and then another in the spring.

The one thing I really like is they only have to be drenched every 8 weeks.

It means you’re not mucking around in the yard every month and they can spend that time eating grass and growing.

I think it is a real positive of the product.

You know exactly how much they’re getting and you’re not wasting anything. It’s a product that I’ve always achieved good growth rates from.

… the fact we only do two drenches on our cattle is also a big saving. Some people are drenching every six weeks. The cattle are far better off out in the paddock eating grass than sitting in the yards.

DRENCH PLAN

Want a tailored Drench Plan for your farm?

At Zoetis, we're able to tailor a simple to follow parasite management programme, or Drench Plan for your farm. It details the number and type of drenches each stock class requires to help maximise worm parasite management, limit drench resistance and optimise production efficiency on your farm.

The Drench Plan utilises best drench management practises, which may include recommending non-Zoetis product. This ensures drench sustainability in an effort to minimise the development of drench resistance.

At the same time, we can add in stock management activities such as docking, or other health related stock treatments such as vaccines.

What does the Drench Plan involve?

It involves a consultation between you and one of our experienced and knowledgeable Zoetis staff. Often it's done in conjunction with whomever you purchase your product from, for example, your Veterinarian or local Rural Retailer's Technical Representative.

During the consultation, we'll discuss your farming operation, stock classes and the type of drench treatment that would best suit your stock and your farm. The consultation takes around 40 minutes.

At the end of the consultation, we'll leave you with a printed copy of your tailored Drench Plan and we'll also email you and your preferred animal health provider.

What does it cost?

There is no cost involved. Similarly, you're under no obligation to instigate the Drench Plan. The only thing you'll need to invest is about 40 minutes of your time.
